Mrs.Shab i took this wonderful free time and decided to use it in a productive way. My first post about lost angel! Although i dont see where the angel comes into action yet. Here i go :
So Hilda is a woman trapped at war in London , but she also has her daughter along and together at the start of this story they hide in their shelter but directly their home is destroyed and they decide that they cant remain in the shelter forever. Having nowhere to go since her husband is out fighting at war and her parents died during the early pages of the story Hilda decides to temporarily stay with an old friend,Mabel, but seeks to send her daughter over to the country side where her friend Gertie is. Hilda would rather leave her daughter with a rather strange friend than get her sent over to a stranger during the evacuation. As the story proceeds Hilda decides to join her daughter Ellen and off they go much to Mabels dismay. After Ellen and Hilda arrive and meet Gertie and on the way to Gerties home we learn that Hilda's mom used to work for Gerites Father and thats how the two got to know each other, but after having strange preferences which appeared to be a disgrace to Gerties family, Gertie decided to go into seclusion in the country side. Hilda describes Gerties house as fairly smaller than her own . You may visualize it as a farm.
great job hala!but don't you think that hilda actually described gertie's house as a palace compared to hers??or not?......
ReplyDeleteyes areej she did infact say that it was relatively smaller than her own , and then she remembered that her house was destroyed and felt a tug at her heart strings.Thankyou for reading :)

ReplyDeletealthough gertie's life was better than hilda's, yet it seemed that hilda was much happier. Hala i really loved ur summary!!! : )
ReplyDeletehmmmmm..... hala is it just me, or does your post seem a little pessimistic ? :P
ReplyDeletei guess it goes without saying that i don't really agree with your title; hope is still there by the fact that: 1-the dad didn't die; 2-they found a safe place to go to; 3-ellen seems to like the countryside; so in the first three chapters that's where i find the hope....
hahahaaa, anyway; your summary does seem the most lively one believe it or not :P it doesn't give that sense of 'droning on and on' :)
Great summary Hala , but i also agree with Nour.
ReplyDeleteand Areej, yes she does describe Gertie's house as a palace ,the house she lived in with her father and not the house she lives in during the story.
(:
I don't see where your opinion stands amidst this summary ... Posting a summary pretty much wraps it up for some people who did not read the novel which, sort of, doesn't give them the chance to relive the experience through the pages of the novel..
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, I must agree with Nour.. Having listed events that are actually positive ,(like the moving Hilda and Ellen to a safe place which also gave Hilda a chance to reconnect with an old friend Gertie), you are pretty much contradicting your title..
An angel is most probably the lost daughter that we will find out about in the coming chapters..
I am glad you are finally doing productive things during leisure :P
Hala, while narrating the summary you lost the significance of the positive events that Amoudi and you listed-that's the hope that keeps Hilda alive for her daughter, and there is more hope for Hilda in the upcoming chapters.
ReplyDeleteWell hala that is a good job but I guess a person in a young age who suffers such disasters like Ellen and hilda must be angels searching for hope
